WHAT WE DO TODAY WILL DECIDE WHAT THE WORLD WILL LOOK LIKE TOMORROW!
SUSTAINABILITY @MEINL PERCUSSION
You've probably heard this phrase many times before. However, we at Meinl take responsibility for the environment because the protection of nature is close to our hearts. We always strive to ensure that our business activities are carried out in an environmentally responsible way.
Meinl Percussion acts according to the motto "It's our world, we care for it", as you can read in their product catalog or on their website. How exactly they manage to do that, you can read in this blogpost.
It all starts with raw material
The wood used to make your Meinl Percussion instrument originates exclusively from environmentally controlled forests from industrial wood plantations. This wood fulfils the CITES regulations. CITES stands for Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. This is about the protection of international trade in endangered and protected species (animals and plants).
Production takes place in Thailand. Thailand is a logical manufacturing base due to the fact that raw material (rubber tree, known as Hevea basiliensis in technical jargon) is commercially grown there on plantation farms for the production of Latex.
The situation is different with the Meinl Percussion Original African Style Rope Tuned Wood Djembes. These are made from mahogany wood grown in Indonesia.
All plantations, both in Thailand and Indonesia, are designed to protect the forest eco-system by applying the principle of natural evolution. That means that new trees are planted and the older ones, which have ceased to provide latex, are harvested.

The world of percussion is huge and diverse. Percussion cannot be broken down to one genre or one type of person. It’s more. That’s why Meinl Percussion has made it its business to offer a huge range of products that meets almost every need and complies with the highest quality levels regarding manufacturing and materials used. Only by committing to the highest standards, top quality instruments, the maximum of playing comfort, the best possible sounds, and therefore long-lasting customer fulfillment can be guaranteed. But a wide variety of instruments is just one aspect, Meinl Percussion was able to celebrate the really big success through many enthusiastic people: product developers, marketing specialists, sales experts, endorsers and many more, because Meinl Percussion is family!
