METAL EFFECTS
The Bell (also called Ghanta) and the Dorje (also called Viajra or Thunderbolt) are among the most important Buddhist ritual objects. They are often found on Buddhist home altars, but are also popular tools during Reiki attunements, mediation or sound therapy treatments.
Like Yin & Yang
Ghanta represents the female principle, the feminine energy, impermanence, wisdom and Yin, while Dorje symbolizes the male, unshakable principle – Yang. When the Bell and Dorje are combined, it is said, that inner unity and an unimpeded flow of energy is created. During meditation or rituals, the Dorje is held in the right and the Bell in the left hand. In the narrow sense the Dorje is not an instrument, but with its two poles it could have a positive effect on the flow of energy. Furthermore the Dorje could loosen energetic blockages or even dissolve them completely and thus bring about inner purification.
Detailed decoration
Meinl Sonic Energy Bells are handcrafted from a special cast alloy in India and have a very finely decorated handle. The upper part of the handle corresponds to the design of the Dorje. The face visible on the handle shows Prajnaparamita, the goddess of wisdom.
The four clasps at each end of the Dorje stand for the eight virtues of Buddhism. In the center of the Dorje is a sphere, which is also the central element.
The Meinl Sonic Energy Bell is available in three different versions:
● Bell only in size S
● Bell only in size M
● Bell only in size XL
Traditional Tibetian Tingshas
A Tingsha (pronounced ding-sha), also called Tibetan (Hand) Cymbal, consists of two small Cymbals connected by a leather strap. Translating the Tibetan word ting shag, two meanings can be determined. On the one hand, it stands for the metal Cymbals hanging on a thread, and on the other hand, it refers to the long-lasting sound of the instrument.
The Tingsha has its origin in Buddhism, where it serves as a utensil on the Tibetan altar and is used in Buddhist prayer ceremonies, so-called Pujas.
The two Cymbals of the Tingsha can be struck either at right angles to each other or held horizontally next to each other. The sound can be described as clear, high, brilliant, dazzling and penetrating. It lasts for about 12 seconds, becoming steadily softer over time, until it finally fades away completely.
The special feature of this instrument is the tonal interval between the two Cymbals. This interval is an octave higher than the frequency of the brain in the alpha state, which means that when we hear the sound of the clash of two Cymbals, we receive three pieces of information: That of one Cymbal with its harmonics, that of the other Cymbal with its harmonics, and the jump between the two. This jump facilitates the entry into meditation. Last but not least, because of their potential to create an extraordinary silence in and around us, tingshas are used as symbols at the beginning and end of a ritual, meditation practice or fantasy journey.
The sound of the Cymbals is further said to clear the thoughts and senses of negative energy, to encourage us to be aware and mindful, and to maintain our own attention and concentration.
Beautiful craftmanship
Meinl Sonic Energy Tingshas are masterpieces made in India from a special bronze alloy (= alloy of copper and tin; similar to the material of bells). Tingshas are tuned by hammering the rim to the correct thickness.
You can't decide between Cajon and Kalimba because you think both instruments are cool? Then the Meinl Percussion Marimbula is certainly something for you, because it combines Cajon and Kalimba.
The Marimbula is an instrument that originated in Africa and is used today primarily in the Caribbean. It belongs to the family of lamellophones. These are instruments that are especially common in African music and consist of a wooden board or resonance box with metal strips. The metal strips are plucked with the fingers or alternatively can be played with a suitable mallet.
The body of the Meinl Percussion Marimbula is made of rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis Muell.-Arg.). This wood comes exclusively from industrial plantations of ecologically controlled forests in Thailand, which are designed to protect the forest ecosystem. Feel free to check out our blog article about the environmental protection practiced by Meinl Percussion.
The Meinl Percussion Marimbula has four resonance holes on the front and eight metal tongues in the tones f c G D F A d g, which are all individually tunable. The pitch of the metal tongues is determined by their length.
There are two different ways of playing the Marimbula:
● Sit on the Marimbula (like on a Cajon) and pluck the the metal strips from above
● Play the Marimbula like a Xylophone by placing it in front of you on the table
The non-slippery and resilient rubber feet provide a secure footing.
The Meinl Sonic Energy Chimes is a percussion instrument made of 27 different lengths of tuned bars. Better yet, this type of instrument is known as Mark Tree, Chime Tree, Wind Chimes or Bar Chimes.
The bars can either be struck in sequence or bowed in one stroke across the octave (from the highest to the lowest note or vice versa). Because the bars vibrate freely, they also bump into each other, eliciting alternating metallic sounds.
The uses of the Meinl Sonic Energy Chimes are as varied as their sound spectrum. From music and sound therapy, to musical and percussion setups, the Meinl Sonic Energy Chimes fits into many environments. Because of its enchanting and magical sound, it is also used in orchestral film music.
The bars golden finish as well as the holder made of Jamjuree wood in walnut-brown give the Meinl Sonic Energy Chimes a noble and high-quality look.
